HNS-5, La Ardu: Believe it or not, but Hubdovan Primary Elections are coming up quickly upon the horizon, so we took it upon ourselves to put out this special-edition broadcast outlining the different candidates and what they stand for. The three candidates for Prime Minister are: Otso Erkkilä, Emelie Salo, and Kristofer Heikkinen.
Otso Erkkilä:
Otso Erkkila is rerunning as an incumbent for a second term in office. He is part of the Hubdova1st Party, which has been dominating the political landscape for the past two years. The Hubdova1st party is, excluding the Hubdovan National Party, the most right-wing conservative party in all of Hubdova. One of his most notable policies that he put into place as soon as he entered office in 2023 was the banning of abortion anywhere in Hubdova which led to mass protests and women’s rights marches all across the nation. He stood by his decision in the end and the protests soon died down. This permanently damaged his reputation and will certainly play a factor in this election. Another one of his policies that was questionable by the public was his stance on climate change. In January 2024, Otso made a deal with Riverforce Industries (a large coal mining company based in Vilberg) to construct five new coal mines in the Nicoshire Mountains in the north of the country. Although he did make progress on the environment with the opening of the Emerald Moss National Forest earlier this month, that is probably going to largely be looked over as everyone was reminded of the looming climate crisis with the Tärkeä Superstorm earlier this month.

Emelie Salo:
Emelie Salo is a relatively new person on the political stage, without being in any high government offices like in any of the ministries or as a member of parliament. She is part of the Greens party, which has been slowly climbing the ranks into being one of the top five largest parties in Hubdova. The Greens, as you might expect, are a party dedicated to the reversal of climate change as the most pressing problem the globe has to face in the coming years. If they are elected, they plan on reversing Otso Erkkilä’s policies and shut down the coal mines in the Nicoshire Mountains that were built by Riverforce Industries and replace them with state of the art geothermal power plants. They will use government funds to give the opportunity to the former coal miners for new jobs by educating them at Vilberg University in the fields of Geothermal Engineering and Geochemistry. This will reduce the amount of jobs lost from the destruction of the mines and also help Hubdova in the fight against climate change. Along with this, Emelie plans on strengthening relations with many influential nations all across Telrova such as Hockyyekcoh, Ziroxeut, Daraln, Locotima, Aelandi, and many more. This would strengthen the economy greatly and further put Hubdova on the international stage.

Kristofer Heikkinen:
Kristofer Heikkinen is quite a well-known figure in Hubdovan politics, being a member of parliament and the Finance Minister in the past. Now he is turning his sights on the Prime Minister position. He is part of the People’s Social Party, a moderate socialist party that has always been one of the largest parties in Hubdova. The People’s Social Party is a leftist party that has strong socialist values such as lots of government involvement in private businesses and the furtherment of inclusiveness in everyday life. Contrary to traditional values, Kristofer does not believe that the private sector shall be illegalized, just heavenly monitored and brought to strict social and environmental standards. In his announcement of his plans earlier this year, he announced the biggest welfare spending package ever in Hubdovan history. In this package, Kristofer stated that, for people earning under ⳩30,000 a year, the following services shall be provided for optional use: two, basic free meals per day, a government provided mobile device, government housing, free services to these government housing units (ie: electricity, water, WiFi, ect.), and many more. He also plans to increase spending on combating climate change by building new offshore wind farms, solar fields in wide flat fields of Telaxöron, and replacing the coal mines in the Nicoshire Mountains.
