Ähtäri, Telaxöron: About ten in the morning on Tithe Road just outside Ähtäri, a small mountain town about forty kilometres northeast of Vilberg, a group of large boulders came loose due to heavy rainfall the night before. A sightseeing bus full of tourists was driving by below and the boulders crashed down the mountain. The group of boulders slammed into the top of the bus, crushing the roof in and pushing the bus near the edge of the cliff. Fortunately, the bus was not pushed off the cliff thanks to the safety barriers that were built a couple of years ago. Eleven people were confirmed dead, with thirty-six others rushed to the nearest hospital in Vliburg. They are expected to survive. Cleanup crews have arrived at the scene and are starting to clear the road for continuing traffic. This accident has raised the question of further road safety measures such as sediment reinforcement on the national level. Prime Minister Kristofer Heikkinen supports this, along with most others in his party including Joni Nuumi, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation. Prominent members of the Hubdova1st party however, have announced that they do not support these measures because of the cost it would take to complete this. Leading party member Salomon Laaksonen has said in a statement that it would be better to just post signs along these dangerous roads so they would have been warned of the dangers of travelling there instead of spending the millions of hunovas that it would cost to prevent the rockslides altogether. A bill is set to be written in the Parliamentary Assembly that would construct the sediment reinforcement infrastructure.
