Eqrihstead, Toclariä: This morning, mass protests have sprung up all over Eqrihstead (Toclariä’s capital) due to a remark that the governor of Nesmour, Ahvo Leppälä, made about Toclariäns, saying that the government in Arcadia and Eqrihstead need to do a better job at controlling the population. Toclariä has the highest level of crime in the nation due to it being the poorest.
Until 2012, Toclariä was its own country. It was extremely crime-stricken with one of the highest levels of poverty anywhere in Telrova. It was also being eyed up by regional powers because of the abundance of natural resources in the nation. The nation’s president made an unexpected phone call to the then Prime Minister of Hubdova, Aake Kivimäki, asking if it would be acceptable to be annexed if the referendum passed. Aake approved and, days later, the referendum passed overwhelmingly to join with Hubdova.
Since then, Hubdova has put millions of hunovas into the national district, modernising and developing it. Now, with the protests, many Hubdovans are wondering if this was just a whole scheme to use Hubdova as a bank to develop themselves, and then ask for independence in the future. The current minister of Toclariä dismisses these claims, saying that “We were just terrified for our safety and, because of the remarks made by governor Leppälä, we are worried we will be repressed as a minority in Hubdova.” Districtual Minister Hanna Karjalainen and her local government has submitted a bill to the Parliamentary Assembly that would grant Toclariä puppet status, meaning that they would be allowed to have their own parliament, have different laws than the rest of Hubdova, and many other benefits.
